Free Pixel Reducer: Make Your Image Smaller in Pixels

A picture pixel reducer makes an image smaller in pixels — for example, from 4000×3000 to 1000×750. Smaller pixels usually mean a much smaller file size too.

Your image stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use Pixel Reducer

  1. Upload your image by dropping it on the upload area or choosing a file.
  2. Enter a smaller width and height, keeping Lock aspect ratio ticked so the picture does not stretch.
  3. Check the preview and the new pixel size.
  4. Download your resized image. If the file is still too big, run it through the Image Compressor.

Why use Pixel Reducer

  • Smaller pixels for forms, websites and chat apps.
  • Much smaller file size without cropping.
  • Aspect ratio lock keeps your picture from stretching.
  • No account, no watermark, no upload.

Pixels vs file size

Pixels are the width and height of the picture. File size is how much space it takes. Reducing pixels usually makes the file size much smaller too, because there is less picture to store.

If a website asks for exact dimensions, you need to reduce pixels. If it only asks for a file size, you may only need to compress — see How to Compress an Image Without Losing Quality.

How to avoid a stretched photo

Keep Lock aspect ratio ticked so the other value updates automatically. If you need an exact stretched size, untick the lock — but check the preview first, because stretching can look distorted.

Tips for best results

  • Making an image smaller usually looks fine. Making it much larger can make it look blurry.
  • Type only the width with Lock aspect ratio ticked, and the height follows automatically.
  • If the file is still too big after reducing pixels, run it through the Image Compressor.
  • Keep your original file in case you need a larger version later.

Frequently asked questions

What is a picture pixel reducer?

A picture pixel reducer makes an image smaller in pixels — for example, from 4000×3000 to 1000×750. Smaller pixels usually mean a much smaller file size too.

Will reducing pixels make my photo blurry?

Making an image smaller usually looks fine. Making it much larger can look blurry. If you only need a smaller file — not smaller pixels — use the Image Compressor instead.

Is reducing pixels the same as cropping?

No. Reducing pixels shrinks the whole picture. Cropping cuts away part of the picture. This tool reduces pixels, it does not crop.

Does the pixel reducer change the file format?

No. A JPG stays a JPG and a WebP stays a WebP. Other images, such as PNG files, are saved as PNG. Use a converter if you want a different format.

Is this tool free?

Yes. It is free to use and needs no account or registration.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Processing happens inside your browser, so your image never leaves your device.

What image formats are supported?

JPG, PNG and WebP are supported, up to 25 MB. Other formats work if your browser can open them.

Can I use this tool on mobile?

Yes. It works in modern mobile browsers, though very large files may be slow on older phones.
